This pretty much sums up my youngest child's eating philosophy. Anything other than pizza, Cheerios, bananas, strawberries, sausage links, or "pink" yogurt is very likely poison and he will NOT eat it. He won't touch it, let alone put some foreign food substance in his mouth and chew. I've tried everything to get him to try new foods--bribes, threats, with-holding other foods until the new food is tried--nothing works. He will STARVE himself before he will ingest a single square of grilled pork chop or the slightest nibble of a cheese stick, and god forbid he try something yummy like ice cream. Ice cream is poison!!! And cold! And sweet!! EWWWW!!!
And I've known other kids like this. I once babysat a little German boy who would eat nothing but cereal or hot dogs for every meal. His mom was a really hardcore mommy who struck fear into my heart when I didn't behave as she'd like (bullies don't go away when you're grown, they're still here, even in the Stay at Home Mom world and usually they want to dump their disease ridden infant on you when you least expect it and infect your perfectly healthy children with a big hairy, snotty, pukey virus), but even she couldn't get him to eat new foods.
It's made me think a lot about how my characters eat, because we all have our quirks. In my current WIP, my main character's mom is a vegetarian but our heroine lives for a good burger and is suspicious of anything that comes out of a crock pot or contains "emu"--her catch all phrase for veggie meat. In the next book I'm getting ready to start Monday, my heroine has just turned into a zombie and has to eat raw meat for every meal, along with gross things like pig brains. She's understandably skeeved, but it's the only way to keep her newly undead flesh from degenerating into a very non-fashion-forward rotted state so she sucks it up and loads her lunch tray with the latest in zombie cuisine.
What about you? Any weird food quirks? Any characters with food quirks? (Yes, this is what I'm blogging about today. Judge not.)

I don't think it's a zombie infection, but I'm definitely not feeling so hot, which kind of puts a dent in my big Return to the Blog week here. But still, I said I was going to get back in the swing of things starting this week, so here I am...snotty...and foggy headed...and thinking I would totally eat someone else's brains if it would make mine ache less, but here nonetheless.
So how's the summer been? What have you been up to?
Me, I've just been here chillin' with my gnomes (this is a new slang word for kids right? or have I been grossly misled by my sources?) and trying to get the sequel to "You are So Undead to Me" finished before the new baby comes. Not much to tell, but there will be soon. Plans are afoot so stay tuned...if there's anyone still around, lol.
